Oncologists Generally Satisfied with Clinical Trials

In March, 2010, HRA Research surveyed 119 oncologists about their participation in clinical trials. A large majority of them (86%) said that had, in fact, participated in trials.

Of those that had not participated in trials, the leading reason for not doing so was “too much bureaucracy”. However, those who did participate were overwhelmingly satisfied with their experience.

How satisfied are you overall with your participation in the most recent clinical trial you participated in?

Few of the doctors found it difficult to accomplish their tasks in a clinical trial. Tasks that doctors are called upon to perform include [primarily] recruiting patients, ensuring patient compliance, and recording and reporting data. Few doctors were asked to review ICH guidelines for clinical research, and almost none had to actually advertise the study.

Of those who have participated in clinical trials, one-quarter have sponsored their own studies as investigators, and they are nearly as satisfied with this experience as with regular clinical trials.

How satisfied overall were with your experience leading an investigator-sponsored study?
